LUModder
It's funny that my .icd is 0 bytes and it runs just fine.
McJobless
Installing works perfectly fine. Actually, it does even (almost) start, but when the screen resolution is changed, nothing happens for ages and the process is idle in the background. The .icd file in the game's folder is 0 Bytes in size. I'll search my old HDDs, maybe there's still a working version around somewhere. Hmm, we've seen similar problems before, might want to search through our support thread to see if anything suggested there works. It's funny that my .icd is 0 bytes and it runs just fine. That's not funny...that indicates that the copy isn't using anti-no-cd protection. Most copies have an .icd file with 0 bytes.
Raider Mania
Hi I tried this and finished it and the introduction cutsceen worked but after it just crashed. I have the disc but when I use the auto run program is just goes to 3% and doesn't respond.

Cyrem
Hi! Might be I'm just a huge noob here, but I can not find any files named .bat at all.... Hello, I'm not sure what .bat file you are looking for. The tutorial mentions looking for a 'data.cab' file on your disc. You extract this file with Universal Extractor to get the files. Lair
Thank you for this topic - though I haven't actually done this for any of my games, I like that Universal Extractor program. A lot quicker for unpacking than winrar or 7zip.
Flumble
I thought unpacking the archive would be an easy way to install RR, but the extractor chose to unpack the Spanish voice files for most (not even all) of the audio, instead of picking Dutch like the rest of the game. Good thing I got the installer to work as well.
Freack100
Sorry for this necromancy... I did it like said in the OP but it only installs in french, where is the problem? BTW, I got the german CD if that helps...
McJobless
Sorry for this necromancy... I did it like said in the OP but it only installs in french, where is the problem? BTW, I got the german CD if that helps... The disc itself. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, DDI didn't do multi-language discs. Each disc will have a single language on it (not sure if they all also have English as well). You'd have to find a French copy, if they exist. If they do exist but you can't get one, you could try find a French user to send his files to you.
alan
You'd have to find a French copy I think he looks for the german version even when he got the german cd. It is just in french... whyeverOhhh, my bad Then, that's an interesting problem. What he'll need to do is crack open the .WAD files and see if the disc weirdly only has French files. So are you allowed to send nearly all files to someone else (all except the .exe?)I've been under the assumption it's safe to send all of the content of the game, since you can't really do much with it without the .exe. Cyrem
Sorry for this necromancy... I did it like said in the OP but it only installs in french, where is the problem? BTW, I got the german CD if that helps... Well that is indeed interesting. In all the disc's I've ever owned it only has one set of English WAD files on it. Sounds like the German version has multiple WAD files in the archive and it's only extracting a single set. I had a similar problem with Stunt Rally, I feel that maybe it is actually extracting them all however they are overwriting each other so that you're left with the last language extracted. I should probably make my own installer for this sometime, maybe a Cafeteria feature.

crashnorway
Hopefully I have a helpful contribution to make after struggling massively to get this installed in the right language. I have a multi-language CD with the Scandinavian languages on it (Norwegian, Swedish and Danish). Installing it using Universal Extractor would give me Swedish text and in-game sounds, while the voices were in Danish (as someone has suggested, the files are probably duplicates where only one version is extracted). I could've played the game like this as these languages are quite similar, but it would destroy the nostalgia of playing it like I did in the old days (not to mention that it would be disturbing to play the game with both languages like that). I tried using the alternative installer, but that got me a mixture of Norwegian and Swedish instead. I couldn't find any program that would open the .cab file and extract the right files. In the .wad and data folder I would only find the files for the two different languages. The original installer wouldn't work with any compatibility setting, until I got the idea of installing in safe mode. Success!
Lego Rockfox
A common problem with this game is that the game's installer will not run on newer systems. You may be able to get it to run by trying compatibility modes, ending programs or disabling UAC. However if all these efforts fail there is something you can do to save your game and be able to play it. Step 1 Download a program called 'Universal Extractor'. It has been uploaded here for your convenience. Then extract the contents of the zip file you've downloaded. Step 2 Insert your LEGO Rock Raiders disc and open the contents of the disc. Specifically you are looking for a file named 'data.cab' Step 3 Start up Universal extractor, browse and select the 'data.cab' file on your disc as the archive to extract. Set the destination directory to wherever you want the game. Step 4 Click 'ok' and wait until it has finished extracting. Step 5 In the disc you will see a folder named 'EXE'. Inside is an exe and icd file, copy these. Step 6 In the location you extracted the 'data.cab' paste those copied files and click 'yes' to overwriting. The reason for this is because the exe within the 'data.cab' file is for 16bit systems whereas the one in the 'EXE' folder is compatible with 32bit and 64bit systems. And that is all. You've manually installed the game and saved it. You can run the game by executing LegoRR.exe from the directory you've extracted everything. Note that this method can be used with many other games with which you are having the same issue. Additionally, if you feel inclined, you can make a new installer with programs such as InnoSetup. First i tried this and the extractor works, but the game doesnt start at all on Windows 10. The LegoRR.icd has a size of 720kb & the exe just 276 kb. EDIT 2: This was the 1999 Original CD btw. I tried it also with the "Disky" 2003 release & was able to start it. However its french now instead of german. How can i change that? EDIT 3: I found out, that the sound is German but the Text is French. The reason why is, that in the lang.dat on the Disk, French has as Info (Standard) so that maybe causes the French text. However i dont have any LegoRR1.wad file in my unpacked folder. EDIT 4: I also tried to edit the lang.dat file & others but i still get an 80 MB LegoRR0.wad file with french text, also no menu music & the game runs slow except when i´m about to exit it.So there is a lot of work to do to get it run as it should be on Win 10 I have created an alternate installer for LRR. Simply put the LRR CD in, and run this. Updated link since SOMEONE broke the uploader again: https://ore.rockraidersunited.org/rockraiders/tools/lrr_alternate_Installer.zip 2nd i tried this but the Installer says: No installation Candidates found. Cant it recognize mounted images so that it need the real CD? Edited September 6, 2015 by Lego Rockfox Additional Infos

SuperSchokoKeks
Hi RockRaider Community, I have a german copy too (one of my oldest games ) and so the same issue as eh someone mentioned. Extracing cab -> french text (uuahhhuuh...) and german audio. Later I installed the game via Safemode as crashnorway suggest and it works as intended. So I packed the german files and uploaded them to release everyone from this pain, which I had (I did a lot of testing and workarounds before I installed in Safemode.) Hopefully he read the whole thread to find the solution to his issue. I still have the french-text-wad-files if eh. . anyone needs it, I upload them too. http://oresome.rockraidersunited.com/download/
