So one day I saw this great piece on deviant art.

One look at it and I knew it was perfect for something I've wanted to do for a damned long time.

So I contacted the artist and got his/her ok to do the project.

I began simple, using adobe illustrator to trace this. (Note: the outline was about 75% done in the picture, it lacked detail.)

Using my mad photo-shop skills I then put her on the side of the weapon, colored the gun gold, made the wooden handle stained green, and added a nice marble finish to her scarf and tail tip.

Then I converted it into a hard normal map and added some detailing to give it a more nicer look.

Lastly I created a VMT file, these allow the bump-mapping, shine, and various other neat things to make it pretty.

"VertexLitGeneric"

{

	$baseTexture "models/weapons/c_items/c_ambassador_opt.vtf"

	$bumpmap "models\weapons\c_items/c_ambassador_opt_normal"

	$halflambert 1

	"$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" 1

	"$phong" "1"

	"$phongexponent" "5"

	"$phongboost" "3"

	"$lightwarptexture" "models\weapons\c_items/c_ambassador_lightwarp"

	"$phongfresnelranges"	"[.25 .5 1]"

	"$phongwarptexture"  "models\weapons\c_items/c_ambassador_phongwarp"

	"360?$color2" "[ 0.9 0.8 0.8 ]"

	// Cloaking

	"$cloakPassEnabled" "1"

	"Proxies"

	{

		"vm_invis"

		{

		}

	}

}

I used SourceSDK's model viewer to get an idea of what it would look like.

And finally the best part, in-game testing.

Then to be even more showoffy, I used my personal skin, another thing made by me, and created a nice image with it.

Oh awesome, thanks for the heads up! I'll give this a try sometime when I get Garry's Mod working again...

Well you need tools to edit VTF files.

You need to know how to create bumpmaps.

You need to especially know how the VTF file "coding" works to create phong that isn't overdone.

  1. Ok, I'll take a look into that.
  2. I modded FSX aircraft for a while, and it's where I got a lot of good experience with texture files and bump maps, so I shouldn't have an issue with this.
  3. I'll take a look into tat too. I might have another friend or two who can help me with that one...

Stick thay pattern on a tank. Have a flashback to the time when even bombers had names.

Will you give that a rest please.

No one likes that tank.
