I need some data and you're my focus group.

Shadowblaze

I apologize for the sassy title and blog post in general. :P

I decided after much deliberation that it's time I do a soft-reboot of my channel. After 5 years of complete staleness, it's time I actively start promoting my brand by sending some cheap EDM music to people like Dubstep Gutter and Berzox, as that's what cool people do these days.

But mind you, it's going to be just a phase. :P I will be doing what I have to until I can start making again the stuff I want, I hope you understand what I mean. Besides, it's not like I despise EDM. If it's not repetitive and unoriginal garbage like most of the releases on UKF I'll most likely see some good in it, and try to incorporate it in my style. My plan is to start making both EDM and VGM in the future, as I enjoy them all the same, even if for different reasons.

So, what I mean by soft-rebooting is: I should change my name again, to something more thought out and unique, that will sound acceptable for both for EDM and the more VGM and cinematic side of music. What I found was this name: Nuwe.

The Nue is a mythological Japanese creature which "has the face of a monkey, the legs of a tiger , the body of a Japanese Raccoon Dog and the front half of a snake for a tail" (Wikipedia), basically a chimera. It's also known for being very mysterious and enigmatic, which led to a shift in meaning of its name to "man of mystery". Now, to me this name sounds glorious. Super simple to write and remember, I like how it's pronounced, and it's got that meaning which perfectly fits what I do (many styles under a single identity, sort of like a chimera?). The only problem is that "nue" in French means naked (feminine), which is stupid.

So I used my Nihongo no kakikata no takumi to rewrite it in a less equivocal way, and got Nuwe, which is even better, because for reasons I cannot explain here it looks stylish to Japanese people. Additionally, in Afrikaans apparently it means "newer" which is a plus.

So that's the name I wanted to go with. The alternative is to use a pseudonym where the first name is a shortening of my actual first name and Nuwe as a fake surname.

I was also thinking that maybe the logo could use some tweaking. Thoughts about all of this? Any critique to make? Please don't hold yourself back. You're my focus group and I want to hear everything I can from you. :P

I don't think a name is of super high value importance, as long as the content is good, people will get to know the name behind the creation(s) regardless of how simple or complex it is. Just go with something that you feel is you and something you don't mind all too much being called.

The point is I don't know what to choose, and I don't know if what I end up choosing will sound good enough. I just want someone to agree on whatever name I decide, I don't want to take a decision completely blindly. The alternative is Nuwe, or strapping that word on top of my pseudo-first-name (which would be Nick).

To be perfectly blunt, I think Nuwe is being overly dramatic when you're just a composer. It's only music, it's not a strike force dedicated to stealing secret relics l405G.jpg I find Shadowblaze perfectly fine, but I'm someone who doesn't like upsetting the status quo for the sake of upsetting the status quo (read: not a traditionalist unless no better alternative is there).

Mind you, I have odd opinions on music, its production and uses thereof, but at least you have my data l405G.jpg

I completely agree with you on one hand. On the other, Shadowblaze as a name has zero identity. It's so cheesy and common that it won't do to identify anybody. It's just one step above XxXCav3Lurk3rXxX, which is not what I would like. Now, Nuwe does sound a bit pretentious but I don't care that much about it. In no time you'll become normalized to it like with my older name, and won't treat it as foreign as much as you are now.

[joke] How about you change your name to "Sebastion"? [/joke]

As for any real suggestions well... I'm sorry, but I'm all out...

...actually, I don't know about you, but the name "Nick Nuwe" sounds... how do I put this... childish... cheesy, sorta like when you call yourself "Cool boy Ben" or "Sick Sebastion"... or something like that.

Now don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the word "Nuwe", meaning and everything, but pairing it to a name just makes it all bland, like getting a nickname in school.

I'm not sure what your username should be, but the combination "Nick Nuwe", in my opinion, doesn't work.

Yeah I get what you mean. But compare it to other artist fake names I've seen: Shane Mesa, Jesper Kyd (which I'm pretty sure is his actual name actually), and let's not even talk about popular bands which have completely idiotic name. Plus, it doesn't sound too off from a real name to me, which is the most important thing.
