Cirevam
This came up in Discord. We know the Matorans, Turaga, and Toa are ridiculously old and are machine organisms, but how do they age? Do they metamorphosize when they're ready to go to the next stage? Is there a catalyst for that event (proto-whatever)? Let's theorycraft about how these little creatures of Mata Nui grow up. emily
An already extant Toa sacrifices their energy to make a Matoran a Toa. Then, because they lost their energy, they become a Turaga. It's the circle of life!
aidenpons
TOA STONES ARE THE SOLUTION Age up from Matoran to Toa? TOA STONE! Go from Toa to Turaga? TOA STONE! Go from Matorn to Turaga? TOA ST- well maybe... two toa stones and a Toa in between? Also, those sphere things that Makuta made early on shrunk the Matoran, conveniently allowing Lego to release new sets... as I recall, they were then rebuilt to their previous size. I'm not quite sure if "rebuilding" is "piling parts in a heap and just switching the mask over" or if it's "take one arm, replace it, take a leg, replace it, etc etc etc."
