The old Death Star was £275 over here. This new one costs over £125 more than the old one, and the only substantial change I can see is Han Solo's sodding hairpiece. In short: an absolute cash grab.

What happened to "Only the best is good enough" ?

Mr. Cup of Fail

The only thing I see that have 200 more pieces are the minifigure, accessories (using the smallest pieces as possible) and nothing else. LEGO need a Cup of Fail ASAP.

I dunno, I feel like the reaction to this one has been overblown. Lego never at any point promised us a new death star - that was all leaks and rumors. The 2008 model is a strong seller and they're just cleaning up the design to keep it modern. $100 more dollars is kind of a thing, but like, if you were already going to spend $400 on a lego set, is $500 really such a big deal? idk, I've never had that kind of money anyway.

This would be a good argument if they'd actually done anything to improve the model...

...but they haven't. If you put the two side-by-side, you'd see basically zero difference between 'em. Literally the only difference is the minifigs.

With the design, I feel they're operating from a "what ain't broke don't fix it" standpoint (why waste resources updating the set if it was still popular anyway), but fair enough on the price.

edit: oh and its worth noting that, with inflation, its really only a $50 increase in price. still something, but only half of what it looks like at first glance
