Well that was quick. Update 4 is now available!*

Notable changes:

  • 2 player split-screen co-op (currently controller/keyboard or controller/controller, will be expanded)
  • Improved basic brick-building controls
  • A few new bricks
  • New controls to navigate your backpack
  • New quests
  • An "awesome new weapon – it’s the perfect complement to split-screen and will bring even more colour to your worlds"
  • Explosive action crates
  • Tons of bug fixes

* While Update 4 is available, they have not had time to test it all so they put it on a beta branch. General availability will be after the new year.

Be sure to read the announcement for complete details.

Obligatory complaint post.

Fun Fact: Turning the map off in LW massively decreases lag.

My computer is... well... somewhat ancient (Only 7 or so years old which is young by our standards, we don't throw computers away l405G.jpg) and it has trouble running it. Turning most things to Low or Off has helped, but I was somewhat surprised to find the map gobbled up so much.

If you want to get your bearings you can pause the game, go to settings, click turn the map on (it'll instantly come up), then turn it off again. l405G.jpg

Thought someone else would have picked this up. Huh.

Minor bug fix patch released today.

  • Drillex animations added [I'm surprised this managed to slip through the main update]
  • Resolved a problem that caused split-screen to become disabled if players backed out to the “Press Start” screen whilst in Split-Screen
  • Fully disabled Dynamic Split-Screen mode (This will correct any affected save files)
  • Resolved a problem with Save Game serialization that was affecting user settings (This would result in all user preference settings (Terrain, etc.) from being different to what was selected)
  • Also a user reported that the "transparent brick glitch" was fixed. Not sure what this was, though. It could be related to a bug with transparent bricks being completely invisible underwater.

Surprisingly, no reports of the update breaking the game -  expect for this person with a report that's been coming up since update 3 and is likely something else causing it.

In response to that video, someone commented on Steam:

WOW, I'M SO PUMPED FOR THIS UPDATE NOW,
I JUST THREW MY CAT ACROSS THE ROOM!!

Not sure if that is an appropriate reaction or could be worth calling the SPCA about, but you must say, this kid is excited.

ReBrick just announced a Worlds-themed contest, and the top prize is really, really interesting...

Quote

Grand prize: Your model will be available in the game, LEGO Worlds & be recreated by a known Brick Artist for the LEGO Worlds booth at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles in June 2016

A dedicated Lego Worlds stand at E3 with what appears to be a significant amount of effort put into it? Hell yeah, this is great news.

New Worlds trailer!

"Primitive forms of one-up-menship"

Did they just poke at their lack of good driving physics and competitive activities? :D

Also skeleton player. The Worlds team must like the skeleton.

Next update info!

Hi everyone!

It’s probably time we shared a new update with you, isn’t it? We thought so too!

So we’re pleased to announce that Update 5 is on the way this month, and that amongst many performance updates and bug fixes, we are also releasing an overhaul of the games UI.

We have toiled over the UI for several months, and have conducted a few user tests to go with it in that time, and are now happy with where it is at. It will make getting from tools to gameplay a lot smoother, and also ensures that players on Controller, and Mouse &Keyboard are able to utilise all of the tools and features with ease! This also sees several improvements made to the Creative Tools too, which should now be a lot easier and faster to use and switch between as well.

On the topic of Controllers, we have also updated our Controller support to include the Sony Dualshock 4!

Also, our hard-working coders have found the underlying cause to the stuttering and stalling that some of you have come across. Our QA team have performed multiple Frame Rate tests and have seen huge improvements across their setups.

Another key update is to our AI, and how they behave within the Worlds to help them feel more alive. More NPC’s will hop into Planes, Cars and Boats and do their own explorations and some creatures will react to Fire in certain ways too, but we’re going to make you figure that one out!

The Sky visuals is another area that’s seen improvement, both at night and during the day. A lot of these improvements were discussed in Emilio’s fantastically-mathematical Developer Diary:http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/0/485622866440633602/

On top of all that, we added new Quests, Props, Items, Creatures and Vehicles too! Once we release the update, we’ll share a full patch notes for you to sink your teeth into as well.

  • Underwater AI should now path correctly
  • Altered draw distance settings for 3 highest options + This is to address a LOD banding issue that occurs on higher settings
  • Corrected text in world names to prevent debug text appearing
  • Water creatures no longer fall through the water when spawning in
  • Inverted zoom controls in export tool

Give the Development Team a few months and I can assure you they'll hire JJ Abrams for the next lighting update.

Guessing this'll be about those themed DLCs we've caught wind of. Or maybe online multiplayer! But probably the first one.

GUESS WHAT IT WAS THE SECOND ONE

Hi all,

Well it’s finally here. The thing you’ve all been waiting for; the Grapple Gun! Oh yeah, and a First Person Camera…. AND ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!!!
That’s right, starting right now, you can opt into a Beta branch on your Steam library that allows you and one of your friends on your Steam Friends list to play in each-others Worlds together for the very first time! Race, Build, Explore, Destroy, Paint, Decorate and battle across your varied landscapes and designs!

To opt-in to the Beta, you’ll need to do the following:

In the Library, right click on LEGO® Worlds and choose ‘Properties’.

From here go the Betas tab. In the drop down menu, select the ‘Beta’ option.

Allow your game to update.

Load up LEGO Worlds!

You’ll see the options for starting or joining an Online World under the Settings menu on the World Selection Screen. Simply choose ‘Start Online Game’ and then press the Green Tick so it says 'Enabled'. Then close that box and load a World as normal. Congrats! You now host an Online Game. Any of your friends can then join the game by either using the ‘Join Game’ button in that same menu, which will open the Steam Friends list for you, or going direct to the Steam Friends list themselves. Then click on the name of your friend playing LEGO® Worlds, and press ‘Join Game’. Give it a moment to load, and then enjoy!
So what else in new in the Beta?

First Person Camera

Well, after huge demand, we have finally given the people what they wanted! A first person camera is now available under the pause options. You can also quickly cycle between camera modes by pressing ‘C’ on the keyboard, or by clicking in your left stick on your Xbox One or Dualshock 4 controllers. The camera will help those who want to explore the various depths of their Worlds caves, and offer added freedom with building too!

Grapple Gun

We’ve also added a nifty Grapple Gun! Zoom around your map in new ways as you zip from point to point with your handy grapple gun. One of our demo Worlds at E3 will actually be a Grapple Gun course, so hopefully we’ll get some fun footage of people trying it out!

New Vehicle Controls (Rotational Controls)

Another update that is hopefully well received, is a new controls setup for Vehicles. The current setup is what was referred to in our last Dev Diary (found here:http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/0/350532536104894292/) as ‘Directional’. We’ve added a much simpler ‘Rotational’ controls setup, where movement is defined by a button press, rather than pointing in a direction. This means that on an Xbox controller for example; A is forwards and X is reverse.

Updated Biome Atmospherics & Large Scale Ambient Occlusion

Those of you that read our Dev Diaries will have seen these two aspects mentioned recently. We have added several key changes to some of the visuals within certain biomes, as well as some much needed lighting improvements. The full scope of these changes can be found here:http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/0/357284767255140967/
Shiny!

Road Tiles

We’ve added a few of the official LEGO City Road tiles into the Brick Building tool! Set up your cities and towns road networks (and help solve the problem that is the British M6 whilst you’re at it for bonus points!)

We’ve also thrown in a couple of new quests as well for you to try out (as always though, these are for you to find!) and a couple of updates to our characters and creatures behaviours to make them feel a little more alive.

Whilst we have you, we’d all like to take the chance to thank you for what has been an incredible year. Early Access is far from over for us, but that we’ve finally managed to bring the Online Multiplayer to you is a huge boost to all of us. Over time this will evolve and many changes will come in as we hone in any of the final tweaks needed before we shift everything across the main game branch.

Many Thanks,
The LEGO® Worlds Team

Fluffy Cupcake

Well I joined ya, we did things (I stole Ayliffe's spot when he left. :P). I haven't played in a while so I was pretty much getting re-use to the game and all its changes since.

Also, emotes can be resized now? Cool. Let's hope people don't abuse it too much.

Well.

TT is giving a "buy one get one free" "sale" at the moment, to promote the multiplayer (which is a fully functional beta).

I have never seen so much flame over a 50% off sale.

Some of you on RRU know - I saw some of you there - but.... well...

Steam discussions: http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/0/

Best example of flaming: http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/0/351659808475075941/

There's more from E3 I haven't watched yet, but in here, they mention adding support for 4 players online eventually, and hopefully more beyond that if it works out well.
