I've never seen anyone mention it on here before, but if we can get a team, a lot of us will have to rank up if we don't already have the game. I'm currently a silver 1 trying to rank up at least to play with some friends who are novas.

I played it some... it has a lot of problems.

 

Problem Number 1:

Random Freezes on Minimum Settings at considerably above minimum system requirements

 

This is self explanatory.

 

Problem Number 2: LAAAAG

Against bots on a local machine that doesn't have issues with random freezes in the game, there appears to be actual, considerable latency, roughly 100ms, between your actions and the handling of these actions by the bots.  In actual multiplayer, I usually ping in the US at roughly 110 milliseconds (measurement to Dallas, TX from Seattle, WA).  However, the game acts as if I have over 200ms of latency, which is Not Good.

 

Problem Number 3: Inherent Imbalance

 

This one has been around since before CS 1.6.  It was a novel idea at the time, but... is kinda a problem.

 

If a team wins Round 1 (the pistol round) decisively enough, this team can often get Round 2 AUGs or the Terrorist equivalent.  This puts them in a great advantage over the other team, which has to make do with the cheaper weapons.  The Terrorists get the AK-47, which does fix this some.

 

However, this gives them extra momentum and greatly increases the likelyhood of them winning Round 2, potentially highly decisively.

They can often keep this momentum due to having in general greater quality of equipment... sometimes through until the teamswap.

 

Problem Number 4: The AWP

 

This one could fall under imbalance, but it's important enough to get its own section.

 

The AWP is a flawed weapon design.

 

In single player games, I can snipe very well.  I can't USUALLY snipe really well in multiplayer.  Bear this in mind.

 

The AWP gives me a SINGLEPLAYER style, no sway sniper rifle that instantly kills from a body hit.

It is so easy to use that even I, who am usually terrible at sniping in multiplayer, have taken out entire teams with it.  Teams of decent to good players.  Teams who kicked my team into the ground repeatedly, and who made multi-round saving with default pistol and what I picked up on the battlefield the only way I could get an AWP.

 

This makes it a ridiculous amount better than any other weapon in the game.

 

Problem 4: Team/Map Balance

This one is a minor one.  From one perspective, it has zero effect on the outcome.  From another perspective, it has a major effect on actually finding out how good two teams are.

 

In CS:GO, the maps are largely asymmetrical.  This is not a bad thing, per se.  It just means that often, CT has advantage or T has advantage.

When you play, you play the first "half" of say 6 games.  Say Team A, who started as CT, won all those, and the map is CT-sided.  Now, teams swap.  Team A happens to win one round.  Game is now over, Team A has won the game.

 

However, this doesn't tell you how good Team B is.  At all.  We didn't get to see them AT ALL as the CT side, and the map is CT-advantage.  We don't know if, at the end, the score would have been 7 for Team A and 5 for Team B.  So, while Team A would win regardless, Team B does not, in CS:GO, get to end the game showing that they aren't completely inferior to Team A and might in fact be very closely matched to Team A.

 

Problem 5: Personal Taste

I really don't like how the guns work with recoil, but this is a personal taste thing.  I prefer visual recoil (screenshake within reason, gun/viewport moving up) plus the crosshairs jumping up as the recoil drives your point of aim higher.  This more closely matches the recoil I get in real life with a firearm.

 

CS:GO's recoil makes bullets seem to bend upwards, which really really strikes me as odd.

 

In either one, if you don't compensate at all and you empty an entire magazine, starting at the feet will end in the head of the target.

Counter Strike is an extremely competitive FPS game made by Valve, which I enjoy playing. It's also an eSport. Anyone else play it here, and maybe want to make an RRU team?

 

I'm afraid my answer would be "pls no" for not only some of noghiri's suggested reasons, but that it can be very, as the other members have said, "generic" or "boring". My older brother confirmed this and he also reported that the game is based around headshots. However i think that was just in Counter Strike and not Global Offensive.

 

Still, for the same reasons noghiri suggested, it sounds like a bad idea.

Ah yes, this happens to me a lot of the time and is one of the main things that cause me to panic. Only that it copies it once, not several copies.

Also COD and TF2 are extremely different, but the COD fans think everything thats FPS, or just First Person in general, is a rip off.

 

They said minecraft was a rip off of Call of Duty just because it was First Person, even though you can change to third person.

The reason the gameplay feels generic to you is because the CS series hasn't changed very much since 1.6, and COD and several other franchises use CS' gameplay mechanics as their cores.  It is both a testament to how good the core gameplay can be, but also a bad thing because now it feels super generic.  It's not, though, something I can criticize the game for, because being copied a lot is not the developer's fault in anything but the best way.
