PlatonicWaffles

Yelle is a French electropop trio (composed of a vocalist/ song writer and two composers) that I'm massively into. They've just released a third album, entitled "Completement Fou", which came out at the end of September, and is now already one of my favourite albums of all time. You may have heard of them with their 2008 single "Je Veux Te Voir".

Unfortunately, they're not that well known, as they are an independent group. They write all their music and only make songs for the sake of artistry rather than money. My best friend Conny, even though he's not a fan of their music, admires them for their ethos.

I thought I'd help spread the love by posting a thread on this forum. If anyone's heard of them - great! But otherwise, give them a try and see what you think. Below is the music video to their most recent single.

But what on earth is going on in the video? 8S

Maybe it would help if I knew french... sounds like "complete my food" ?

Trust me, this one's normal compared to their other ones. The song/ album means "Completely Crazy", and there's an official translation video for it on YouTube which you can view through a companion app. There's another one for "Bouquet Final" ("The Grand Finale"), and they plan to release them for the full album.

If you like it, why don't you try out their other stuff? All three of their albums are available in full on YouTube on their channel.

Below is Completement Fou (which is by far their best work IMO) in full:

I had a listen through and I think the song itself is better than the video (well, that's my view).

I actually really, really like the video - it's very quirky and unique, plus I love how they try and make it 90's-ish, complete with voguing and 4:3. But hey, opinions are opinions!

Oooh even if you understand French, you must watch the clip multiple times to (perhaps) understand what's going on. :satisfied:

Just a question PlatonicWaffles, do you understand everything they say (if it's not discourteous to ask this) ?

Mhmm - on top of knowing a lot of French I have all of their lyrics translated into English. Some of them are simple, some of them are pretty deep and artsy (especially Completement Fou's "Dire Qu'on Va Tous Mourir" [saying We'll All Die Someday]), some of them are quite cheeky/ rude but on the whole are very, very well done.

Here's the lyrics to Completement Fou in English - the song is about how crazy the story of the album is, considering the album was produced by Los Angeles bigwig Dr Luke and how their success in English-speaking countries was unexpected (although the band had complete control over the album - he only served to offer support now and then).

I have made it to the summit

You failed to notice in your sleep

I didn't wait for your endorsement

I break the ice while you watch it melt

We danced until we cried

Of joy while you were sleeping

I will not greet you, no matter what

That's not a shadow I'm throwing, I'm throwing shade

Completely crazy

Completely crazy

Completely crazy

Completely crazy

Completely crazy

Told you

Completely crazy

Told you

Completely crazy

What are we doing?

I want to jump into your arms

I looked for you, HEY!

Where were you!?

We've found ourselves

Completely crazy

I never ask for directions

I get there walking on my hands

When I cut myself, I do not bleed, I scar

And wave at you from the other side

Ideas spring to mind and wake me up

It's the night that gives me guidance

Without making a sound I stole the train

Get on or get out, those who love me follow me

Completely crazy

Completely crazy

Completely crazy

Told you

Completely crazy

Told you

Completely crazy

What are we doing?

I want to jump into your arms

I looked for you, HEY!

Where were you!?

We've found ourselves

Completely crazy
