Jimbob
As with the Rock Raiders theme, the original Arctic theme released by LEGO in 2000 was one of my favourite themes growing up with LEGO and toys in general. So when it was re-released in a shiny new less-blue-more-orange outfit, how could I resist making a new diorama?* This diorama contains all five main sets, as well as one of the two limited releases, packed into one tight space under my other dioramas. The floor is made from foam rather than LEGO, in fact I think it was some kind of non-irritant insulation foam or something from an attic that was cut out and spray-painted (a couple of bugs were caught in the spray unfortunately and had to be dug out). Additionally, I added some of my own parts that were mainly bought from a Pick-a-Brick in my local LEGO shop. Here's the main view of this awesome snowy scene: And spoiler'd below are additional pictures. A huge boat is docked by the base; on-board one explorer is busy fishing. Here someone is filming a pair of polar bears on a small chunk of ice. This guy is drilling throw some ice to reach the hidden crystal within. Huskies! The sailor of the boat is looking at the polar bears, next to him you can see the obligatory LEGO mug of tea. This small helicopter is about to deliver some useful equipment. An aspiring photographer is capturing their friend digging through another island for a crystal. Behind them, a plough shovels excess snow off into the ocean. While another explorer unloads his find from a crane arm. This helicopter 'magically' floats in the air with its crystal load. More huskies, off to take some pictures. Inside one of the buildings, a scientist analyses one of their finds... ...While another checks out the energy readings. This guy is getting a close-up on the silver surface of the crystal. It's still silver. Another, larger helicopter magically suspended in the air is delivering its own cargo. Clear the ramp! A view of the biggest of the outposts. The tracks on that drill vehicle to the left... Oh boy, they are awesome to drive around. *Someone can probably quote me saying that, after seeing The LEGO Movie, I was going to stop making dioramas. Well, I enjoy dioramas. And I enjoy LEGO. So I figured I'd just take the best of both worlds - I don't stick big 'NO TOUCH' signs on my displays, rather I'm happy for other people to fiddle and play with them, and for me to just look at them. aidenpons, Arthuriel, Fluffy Cupcake and 3 others
