What is this and why is it mentioned in a a LEGO/EA press release from 2001?

Electronic Arts, the leading interactive entertainment software company has signed an agreement with the LEGO Company, a privately owned Danish company and one of the world's largest toy manufacturers.

Under the terms of the global agreement, EA will co-publish and provide marketing support for more than 30 LEGO software titles on a minimum of four platforms over a three-year period. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

LEGO Company and EA will create world-class software for young gamers, while building current franchises and establishing new ones. Current franchises include: LEGO Racers, Bionicle®, LEGO Island, Academy of Flight, LEGO Sports and Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension. Both companies pride themselves on supplying consumers with high-quality, safe, fun products. This agreement will enable LEGO Company to benefit from EA's significant global distribution and organization.

Poul Plougmann, Chief Operating Officer, LEGO Company: "Our mission with our LEGO software company is very simple. We will create world-class, entertaining interactive experiences specifically for 6-12 year old boys, based on LEGO intellectual properties and brand values of imagination, creativity and fun. Our plan was to find the best sales, marketing and distribution company in the world, and with EA we have found a perfect partner.''

Tom Frisina, Vice President, EA Distribution: "This agreement will bring LEGO Company's impressive range of intellectual properties to a slightly older and more entertainment-driven demographic that is already familiar with EA's software. For EA, it's an opportunity to reach out to younger gamers after the success of the Harry Potter games.''

Google searches just bring up other posts of that press release. Anybody got an idea as to what it is?

That's certainly strange. Even stranger that it's called just "Academy of Flight" when all of the other titles in the list use 'LEGO' (Galidor excluded since it followed the same branding rules as BIONICLE).

Seeing as the press release is from 2001 and advertises 2002 games, it seems fair to assume it is a concept that got scrapped. Also note that it doesn't say anything specific about Soccer Mania, just a LEGO Sports series of games. In tandem with the fact that they were attempting a (rather ridiculously ambitious) 30 total titles 2002-2004, it would seem that Soccer Mania was originally only the first in a line of many Sports games. The second one may even have gotten some way into development, like LEGO Racers 4. If they really were planning 30 games, I have to wonder if a LEGO Island 4 or even 5 was on the table.

What is this

I cannot answer that question either.

The only way Lego could get 30 games in three years is by making them all the cruddy online ones.

Also, what Lego titles has EA made? Bionicle: The Game is one (oddly), but...? Any other ones?

I'd like to think that Flight Academy would be like Lego Racers, with planes, but knowing EA, it probably would not been good.
