Idea for RRU parody or skits... ...thing...

Hullo! Yesterday I came up with an idea for creating an RRU parody of a film or movie. Originally when I first wrote down my idea I was getting myself torn down by saying things like 'this might not happen' and all that but it'd be best that I leave people here to discuss their thoughts and ideas on this. McJobless said about, instead of making a parody of a film, making skits based on members here on RRU. Its a good idea, especially since it would be easier to make than a full movie, but either way I'll let you decide.

I won't get too far into detail, especially since this was originally made so anyone could come up with their thoughts or ideas on this. I look forward to anyone's thoughts and ideas on this. :)

See, I'm going to be honest here. You sometimes have great ideas, but your execution (at least how you describe them to us) sucks. See, I'm very interested in a community parody, but before I get into that, a few things about the OP:

Originally I was going to say the film(s) would be the Lord Of The Rings trilogy but I decided to drop this so if this DOES go forward (and in which it might not happen) the community could vote on a film.

Don't say "IF". That makes people less likely to go through with something. You have to try build confidence in people here for them to do anything. Most of us are quite busy and like to focus on things we're interested in. A quick trip to the Skype group would reveal that frequently multiple users will post about completely separate topics at the same time, because they don't care about any of the other topics.

What you should say is, "Hey guys, I have an idea which we definitely should do. A Community Parody of a Film! I'm personally inclined towards LotR, but what about you guys? Let's make this happen people!" Except, better.

Yes, thats right, the COMMUNITY.

Don't make people feel as though you're forcing them into something with language such as that. That tends to piss them off.

Also, the reason this topic isn't in the 'Member Projects' category is because nothing has even BEGUN on this (Theres no film decided, no script, etc), also if it doesn't work out it wouldn't count much as a 'project', but more like a 'left behind mess', especially if it begins and is just dropped immediately after a second worth of film.

There's no need for this chunk of text. You're only diminishing your chances of getting more people onboard with it. Confidence is one of the most important ingredients in getting any project launched. You'll also note how many failed projects clutter the site. It doesn't matter. If this were to succeed, it'd automatically rise above those projects anyway.

Granted, you are probably right in putting it in General Discussion since it's not a *proper* project just yet, but there's no need to explain it. If somebody asks, go for it, but otherwise just don't worry.

This idea would ALSO take a long time, and some people may not have time to work on something like this if this idea goes forward (which, again, it probably won't).

Again, you're going to make people lose interest. We don't even know what this project would end up looking like. That's why this discussion should exist; to figure out how a project like this would end up.

I originally thought this could just be entirely drawn, but if this ends up going forward (*INSERT UNLIKELY COMMENT HERE*) then I think that it would be fairer if the community added their parts of animation in any form of which they like, including Drawn 2D animation, Cel animation (if possible), 3D Renders, Stop Motion, etc.

Alright, my thoughts on this project.

A community parody would probably work like a related bunch of shorts; people submit stop motions, 3D animations, machinima etc, and then they're collectively edited together in the same way as an episode of Robot Chicken, except with a coherent plotline. The key would be finding what skills people are interested in using, and then giving them the chance to use those skills.

I'm not sure if we should do a full-feature movie, or at least one that's not related to the big interest here (LEGO). What I would probably do, if I was in charge of this, would write out some short skits that have characters based on people from RRU, and then give them LEGO qualities. From there, people can choose their favourite chunks of script and turn that into pieces of the overall work.

Would it look good? Who knows. Would it be fun? Potentially. All I know is, I may *potentially* join this if LMVG modding continues to go as smoothly (sortta) as it has been. I'm hoping that my work load this coming term is a lot less than last term, but we'll see.

Anyways, it's up to the rest of the community. They happen to be a lot more intelligent me so they've probably got a million better ideas (if they're interested in some big community project that won't fall through like Candy Raiders) :D

Thank you for your reply McJobless. I'll get a start on editing both the title and the page with my idea. I don't think I am good with jokes about other people, especially in the case it offends the specific target. I did come up with an idea while writing this reply that the community could help with making skits...   ...but I don't know...

Hmm... Sounds like a good idea in theory, and it could work I suppose. Maybe a spoof of TLM (or any other popular movie like Star Wars and, as you mentioned, LOTR) with users from this site replacing the main characters could be possible?

I've always liked the idea of doing something like this. I agree with McJ's idea:

I'll happily create a short stop motion clip for the project if that's what we decide to go for. My visual art abilities end there, as I'm not a decent animator in drawing or 3D modelling, so if LEGO stop-motion isn't the choice then I can't really help. Personally I think a stop-motion might be best though considering most members here have a LEGO collection to some extent, even if it's just a few sets/parts, and having created LEGO stop-animation videos in the past it's not too long a process if you don't go all-out with huge sets and 24fps rates.

We would need someone/some people to make a decent story though, unless we go for a series of sketches instead, which could also work as it would allow different people's animations to fit together better even if they are of different 'qualities'. And then we have to consider how we'd fit all the different members of RRU in (what was it, 47 active members? Not that everyone is going to want to be in it) legitimately, and if a stop-motion is used then people may have to buy parts to make minifigures appear as members would like.

My opinion? Do a collection of sketches rather than a film, in LEGO stop-animation. That way people can have their own representations of the members without losing any continuity, because there isn't any. But I also understand that a film could turn out a lot better, however as previously said we'd need someone to write and organise it well.

I also kinda forgot to add to the second version of the topic introduction that if people want to animate for this then they can do it in any form (2D drawings, 3D Renders, possibly Cel animation, Stop-Motion animation, etc) and in editing all clips can be compiled together into the shot or scene. This would allow anyone to animate with any applications or programs they are comfortable with instead of forcing members to buy and use a program they don't know how to use and find complicated.

The film idea was to make an RRU parody of one, or possibly make a new one altogether. But if we were to make a film parody it wouldn't have to be exact to the real film, there could be twists or script changes to add in hidden jokes or whatnot.

Sorry for bumping this old topic but, honestly I feel like this could be a great idea and could have some funny moments. I started animating this a while back when this topic was relavant but then forgot about it. Its a pretty basic animation but I felt maybe I would start and then various members could contribute and then we combine all the segments.

Also I can render this better this is just a quick prerender because Its such a short scene.

Only part I'd change (aside from rendering stuff) is getting rid of the ... at the end. Just leave it hanging the whole time.

Also, the black bricks just look like the background. I was wondering why half of a yellow brick disappeared from view.

Just kidding. ;P

Yeah, these are both products of lazy animating. I'll try and clean it up a bit.

That is one quality intro. Also makes complete sense since LEGO games always fall short of potential.

@Yajmo: Your intro gave me an idea:
How about an alternate version of the RR intro, where the asteroid misses the LMS Explorer and Chief just says: "That went well."

As a bonus the RR end credits could be added after that.
