I understand that mine is the older version that requires a CD to play. Still it just drives me crazy that i don't get how an old game can tell that a virtual drive is not using a real cd when the computer sees no difference.

PS: on a possibly related note what does the cd.key registry value file (or something like that) do that is in the data folder of cd?

Edit:don't suppose removing the cd missing registry key would make it work huh? :P:/

Got it working finally after using alcohol 52% (although I did have to remove a couple of "Potentially Unwanted Programs" after installing it. Now I can keep the CD for my old Laptop. :)

Basically, look at the .icd size. Is it bigger than 0? You need a disk to run. If it's 0, then it doesn't.

(Note that the RR CD can easily be copied onto another CD)

The .exe works with the .icd - you can't just swap the .icd

And since RRU doesn't like distributing .exe's (game files are fine), you're stuck with a CD-needed version.

Sorry. :/

The DRM you are up against is SafeDisc 1.0. You can use a program that can make a disc image that can compensate for weak-sectors, I believe Alcohol Soft's image burners are capable of this. Alternately, there is at least 1 program out there that an decrypt the SafeDisc ICD into the real EXE.

I know that. if you read my post more closely I state that I know I have the version that requires the cd.

hmm... i may try something like that. I wondered why it was saying something a bad sector when i tried to create an iso directly form the disk. I guess when i copied the files from the disk to a new folder it left that "bad sector" behind, explains the size difference. alright then thanks wish me luck.
