Motivational Movie Music

I've always thought it important what music we listen to, with regards to whether it's positive or negative. Music can build you up and knock you down, so I try to stick to constructive stuff, as I know that negative songs can make me feel low for the rest of the day if I'm not careful. Similarly, motivational music can really boost me up.

So, with that in mind, here's a topic dedicated to epic movie scores that will build you up when you're feeling low, need motivation, want to feel epic, etc. I've created a playlist of my favourite songs that I think succeed at this, with my reasoning for each. Enjoy!

Oh, if you'd rather skip all this waffle and listen to the full playlist, the link's below. I've chosen HD videos too where I could find them.

Epic Movie Themes

01. Hombre Religioso (Religious Man)  |  Nacho Libre  |  Mister Loco

http://youtu.be/fGgOdbolPJE

This may seem like an odd choice for an intro track. Nacho Libre is a comedy film after all, and I know that Jack Black isn't everyone's 'cup of tea' (yes, I love being British, deal with it :D).

However, whether you're religious or not, Hombre Religioso is a pretty good build-up song. The lyrics 'I am I am' really encourage you to feel good about yourself, and the music brings along that necessary oomph to make you believe it.

02. Scorponok  |  Transformers  |  Steve Jablonsky

http://youtu.be/hDFns0LA7O0

Somewhere in the comments for this video, a user says 'The only thing I liked about this movie was the soundtrack'. I have to say I agree, to some extent, at least I certainly didn't enjoy the second film very much. Yet this song in particular is pretty darn amazing. You'll have to get through the intro first, but once you hit 2:30 you'll feel the power. This is an amazing piece that is so positive and constructive. I love it.

03. "Why Do We Fall?"  |  The Dark Knight Rises  |  Hans Zimmer

http://youtu.be/Homukj0sBYU

Why is this on here? BECAUSE HE'S BATMAN.

Nah, seriously, this song builds up consistently until you hit that recognisable theme of Nolan's interpretation of Batman. It is short, but it's oh-so-good.

04. He's a Pirate  |  Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl  |  Klaus Badelt & Hans Zimmer

http://youtu.be/dFBBKfw59kA

Admit it, if you watched this movie, you felt amazing when the credits hit and this music rolled on. It's unfortunately short (well, I've chosen the original, there are plenty of mixes out there), but as with the previous song it's worth it.

05. Flight  |  Man of Steel  |  Hans Zimmer

http://youtu.be/7kzKJL6TfnM

Oh dear, it seems Zimmer's managed to hit three songs in a row here. He's totally worthy of it though, and this song is no exception. You're hit with the initial awesome feeling, then it's taken away... But it's not long before he returns with round two, and you feel even more epic. Unlike the previous songs, I would really recommend you buy this soundtrack if you can spare the money.

06. Misty Mountains  |  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey  |  David Donaldson, David Long, Steve Roche and Janet Roddick (Performed by Richard Armitage and The Dwarf Cast)

http://youtu.be/zZ3SOwzGa48

Alright, you've had a lot of epic feelings already. This is a playlist for a reason - as with many good films, you start off in a peaceful environment (known as equilibrium), then something happens to break that equilibrium, and finally it is restored again. It's time for our break from the equilibrium, and it's Misty Mountains begins the descent. While not necessarily an inspirational song, it has to be said that the vocals do sound pretty neat.

07. The Uruk-hai  |  The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers  |  Howard Shore

http://youtu.be/5fjyOB2dVWQ

Hold on a minute, I thought we were breaking the equilibrium? Yup, the beginning may be absolutely awesome, but it's momentary. Soon the violent and menacing darkness arrives.

Not sure what else to say really. It's pretty good.

08. Dream is Collapsing  |  Inception  |  Hans Zimmer

http://youtu.be/imamcajBEJs

...And we're back to Zimmer. This song is the final part of our dystopia, everything really is going to kaput. But you feel epic in the process, right? Maybe not a good epic, but it certainly stirs you up somewhat. Oh, if you're looking for a laugh, a lot of the comments on this video have suggestions for things that happen when the music climaxes.

09. Time  |  Inception  |  Hans Zimmer

http://youtu.be/Z0kGAz6HYM8

Son (or daughter), you've been through a lot. Here, feel happy.

Now feel more happy.

Keep building that happiness.

Buddy, I ain't gonna let you down, KEEP FEELING THE HAPPINESS.

CRY.

CRY SOME MORE.

OH DANG WHAT THE HECK IS THIS REAL OR NOT?!

Yeah. This is some good emotional stuff right here.

10. What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving the World?  |  Man of Steel  |  Hans Zimmer

http://youtu.be/RUq5leMN7eo

And we reach the ending of our playlist. The hero has arrived, and he's been through a lot. You've been through a lot too, if you've listened to the whole thing.

This song starts of a little sad, but as with Flight has two waves of motivational inspirational epic awesomeness, and you are left feeling amazing. Love it.

So, there we have it. I hope you enjoyed the music!

Fancy sharing some of your own inspirational music? Feel free to post it here, but please stick to movie scores (and TV as well, I suppose) that are really motivational. Otherwise this'd probably get rather overloaded ;)
