To avoid Off-Topic on my Engine topic, I created this so we can discuss about LI2 Cards.

Here are some facts about the cards:

- To view Cards press select while in the game -

- Question Marked cards can be found anywhere, while star cards only appear in 3 places in the game -

- These places are: at the Phanta Sea, get a shovel to Bologna and he'll dig it up -

- At the Castle Island's Dark Forest, when you go past the guards, go up, and open the chest to get it -

- At Ogel Island, behind a floating brick in the Maze -

- Sometimes, certain people and places can give you their own cards (like Cap. Click, Johnny Thunder and Hotep) -

The Cards are:

#1: Achu (Star Card)

#2: Bill Ding

#3: Bologna Roni

#4: Brickster (Star Card)

#5: Brickster-Bot

#6: Buck Pounds

#7: Captain Click

I was waiting for you to post this :P

I just started a fresh game on an emulator, with an empty card collection. I played up to the Bologna shovel part and he dug me up a Pepper card. The first star card I got in this emulator was Pepper, but after playing my own copy of the game many, many times over the last 10-ish years, the only star card I have ever found is Achu.

I think that if I quit the game now and reload it, I'll go back to the Phanta Sea screen and I should be able to do the digging part again, and possibly get a different card. If that works, I'll do some experimenting with both this rom and my own game.

And from the other topic, what did you mean with "NA version" ?

It's a different release of LI2?

EDIT:

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA

I feel a Winner for FINALLY Finding #19!

I played now here and I found Brickster, Pepper and Majisto in a Row!

No Achus!

I think now I know how to get 'em properly (you might need to start a NEW save without ANY cards):

- AVOID as much as you can collecting Normal "?" cards, and collect just the star ones

- After you get all the star cards, continue playing to get normal "?" cards

- Get All the Cards :D

NA as in North America. There are often regional differences in games, but it could just as easily be a rerelease or something, I don't know anything about the version history of the game. The rom I'm using appears to be named as European, which seems to rule out regional issues as my own game is European.

Anyway, I did try a little experiment using the "Bologna shovel reload" method I mentioned above. I had Bologna dig up a card 10 times in the emulator, and 10 times in my copy. Here are the results:

Emulator

Achu: 2

Brickster: 1

Majisto: 1

Pepper: 6

My copy

Achu: 10

Brickster: 0

Majisto: 0

Pepper: 0

Obviously 10 times is not enough to prove anything, but given that I have never seen any star card apart from Achu in my game I can't see how this is down to chance. Maybe I should  just keep reloading and see how many times it takes to get a card other than Achu in my game, if it ever happens.

o.O

How did you make the Bologna Shovel Reload?

I already tried, I gave the shovel to Bologna, he digged me up a card,

and then I quitted and continued, but he was there on the middle, digging forever!

Sorry, I should have made it clearer. If you pause the game and quit that way it'll save your current progress so you'll be stuck with whatever card you got. To reset it you need to switch off the gameboy or take the game out, or if you're emulating just close the game. Then boot the game back up and continue from there, you should jump into the boat again and you can give the shovel to Bologna again.

Never, ever, EVER, EVER take the cartridge out while the system is still running. M'kay?

Had to get that off my chest.

>:[

Also have you tried A+B+Start+Select? It's a universal soft-reset code that works in most GBC games, so you don't have to keep turning it off and back on.

Also, while NA and EU (and JP) are often used to distinguish between regional versions, I more often see NTSC (North America) and PAL (Europe)

Are you serious about the Achu thing? You get it every time? From what you've described it seems like a problem with your specific copy of the game... This is intriguing. Tell me more.

And those are my two cents.

I don't have this game so really I have nothing more to say.

It's never given me any problems D: But better safe than sorry, I guess. Probably best to just switch off, or try the soft reset.

NTSC and PAL are just video standards aren't they? So they only apply to console games, I think.

Yep, I'm pretty certain that it's impossible to get any other star card in my game. Maybe I should take it back. I've only had it like 12 years :P
