Lego Racers Revisional Differences

I have a 1999 copy and the loading screens are not fullscreen. I suggest we compare checksums of the exe/icd/dll/jam files since there may be differences even between builds made in the same year.

Great idea! But, um, how do we do that? Is there some Windows program on Sourceforge I can use to do this? Because frankly, I have no idea how to do that, and while I have access to Ubuntu right now, I'm still trying to figure it out, and Racers won't run on there anyway. :(

I'll have a look in a minute. If I can't find one online I can write one in like 5 minutes flat.

EDIT: Origamiguy, do you think this loading screen difference could be related to OS version? I've yet to run my 1999 version on XP, (although jamesster has, and it's the same thing), but remember, this game was originally made for Windows 98. I have a copy of Win98SE, and I can load it in a VM to run Racers if I need to.

The loading screens are all 640x480 bitmaps in the track folder. My copy of the game has the smaller loadingscreens, and from some extraction I was able to tell that the blue border is part of that image, as shown here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3770169/screens/2011/09/2011_09_06_00_15_03.png

Loading screen size should be unaffected by OS.

Found one:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/checksumtool

So, what kind of checksum do you want? SHA-1, MD5, or CRC32? I have no idea which one to use...

If you're on Linux, I think you can create MD5 hashes from Terminal. I know OSX Terminal can. Try tying md5 and if that doesn't work, openssl

Thanks for that! But, I on Windows ATM. :P

Alright. I got the checksums, run in each type. I copied data1.cab, data1.hdr, and data.tab from the 1999 disc to the desktop, extracted it using UniExtract 1.6.1 portable to the desktop under a folder called data1, and checked the exe, icd, jam, and dll, just as you said, origamiguy.

EDIT: Yea. Thanks for reminding me, JMMB. I forgot to state which version of Racers this is, although from this conversation, it should have been know it was 1999.

Yea. I just finshed comparing the MD5 hashes, and they are the same. Thus, we both have the same version. Now, we are waiting on origamiguy's, jamesster's, Modded LEGO's (we really need his, as his has the fullscreen loading screens for every track), and anyone else who has a 1999 copy.

Erm, I'm gunna patch it real quick, the date/time formatting is system-dependent.

Say when it's fixed. I just redownloaded it, and I get the same stuff.

EDIT: Ok. I've rerun the test. Results are in the same post, so as to no confuse anyone. ;)

EDIT:

there we go. Patched so the dates are UTC and a standard formatting system.

Good sir, Would you mind making this browse for single files, this tool would be useful for comparing other LEGO Game files :)

They shouldn't... I'm not sure what's up with that :/

Turns out the file was in read-only mode. Does the tool open in read/write mode?

Yeah, I'd forgotten to specify an opening mode and it defaulted to ReadWrite. Patching, will update this post when i've uploaded the fix.

Modded Lego

Sorry about not replying guys! I didn't check my mail, I will try the app and give results!

I have a question, what is the file LegoRacers.icd and how come it does not show up in my LEGO Racers 1 folder? Is that why our versions are different? O_O

The ICD is the SafeDisc V1 encrypted executable found on the 1999 copy of LEGO Racers. It's only present on the 1999 version and is the reason the 1999 version requires the CD by default.

Well that dosn't make sense because I have the 1999 version. :gasp: Maybe I have the earlier version before they made the loading screens not full screen and before they made the safedisc protection.

I just bought this one from ebay.

LEGORacersStudCase.jpg

When it arrives, I'll install and checksum it.

Do any other LEGO games have an orange studded case?

EDIT: Hmmm, the seller has relisted it. I hope this means that he has multiples.

The one I receive better be the pictured one. D8

Would you run origamiguy's LR1 Checksummer on your 1999 copy and post the results in a spoiler here? This would let us know if your 1999 copy is different than ours.

I've never heard of LEGO games with orange studded cases. Maybe that's because I don't have many old LEGO games. :P Someone else may know something.

Yea, I hope you get that copy too...
