RRChief Posted June 9, 2010 Share Posted June 9, 2010 Thought this place could use some spicing up, so here's my lastest creation: The Research Lab. The design of the building is actually based on RR Rock's hospital design since I think it is most suitable for this kind of long and enclosed structures. In the lab, RR carry out analysis on unknown substances collected and see if they have useful properties. To destroy rock walls for minerals, the lab is equipped with a Sonic Emitter Device. Similar to the sonic blaster, it sends out sonic waves that causes rock walls to crumble (it also can be used to try and chase off Slimy Slugs ). Since it has a larger area of effect, it is much more effective than the mining laser at destroying rock walls. Additionally, it also has a control tower which monitors activities within the lab and manages communication. For defense against monsters, there is a laser to fend of any attacks. Still need to do some touch up on the door concealing the Sonic Emitter, and I'm trying to decide what to build in the empty fenced of area on the roof. Anyone has any ideas? I would want to post it on our site and get feedback, and we would have to change a final 3D version to be a little different to LEGO TM pieces, but basically quite similar. I think the sonic rock cutter would be better as communications transmitter, for a research station (it would be hard to move a research station to all the places where to want to drill!) It will be slightly redesigned to better suit it as a research lab. The changes will include Removal of the laser turret (will be replaced with something cooler ) Slight expansion of the lab Area housing the sonic emitter dish will be revamped into a sample analysis machine Will post pictures of the updated model once it is done. RRChief Posted February 7, 2015 Author Share Posted February 7, 2015 After undergoing extensive modifications, I am proud to present the new RR Research Lab! With new features to compliment its functionality. Overview pics: The lab's main new feature is the pair of containment units housed on both sides. As the name suggests, each unit can be used to house a particular specimen or sample. Through the viewing window, the lab staff can study the growth or behavior of whatever is housed inside. Containment Unit Pics: This containment unit is housing a few samples of crystals so that their growth and properties can be studied. One of the samples is an energy crystal, but what is that unknown red and dark green crystal? The other containment unit is used to house one of Planet U's spider. The staff hope the data collected from the spider can be used to make anti-spider-slip footwear for the Rock Raiders so that they stop slipping over them everytime. Last but not least is the lab's new sample analysis chamber, which has replaced the area once dominated by the sonic emitter device. In the chamber, an unknown sample is placed before a analysis beam. The beam then fires at the sample to detect its components. This information is then fed back to the staff, who hope the data retrieved can help them design new technology or weapons to assist the Raiders during their mission.
