I ordered a new charger.

I had a similar thing happen to my HP. The wires are probably shot in the cable that goes from the battery to your laptop since the batterty light is green. I would've recommended ordering a new one but it looks like you've already done that.

i agree with antillies, and i recomment ordering from somebody like rocketfish, to be honest ive noticed the ones that are made by the computer manufactures, like dell or gateway, do not last as long

I've had problems with the fuse in my batter breaking before, but this doesn't seem to be the problem. You seem to have the solution already, though.

Just make sure the charger is the correct one, if you are not ordering form the manufacturer.

After reviewing everything said, I just want to double check the facts. (I'm in a Sherlock Holmes mood, k? :P and I want to make sure you don't go spending money you don't have to ;))

1. The charging light on the laptop doesn't come on.

2. The light on the battery shines green, indicating it has power.

3. The charger is brand new, and should have no problems.

So the battery works, and has power. Does the power icon in your taskbar show that the battery/power-cable are present, and is there any indication that the battery power is decreasing?

Possibilities that could be wrong:

A. If your power cable and battery are present and the power is at 100%, then you simply have a bad light.

B. If your battery is present, but the cable isn't, then your power jack probably needs to be re-soldered.

C. If your power cable is present, but not the battery, then the wires/circuit going to your battery need repair

D. If both are present, but the power is less than 100%, then you have at least 1 problem, but maybe several.

---

Please check for A-D (and we'll go over more details if you get D) before you go running off to geek squad, as they tend to charge quite a bit more than I think they should.

no he doesn't have a new charge, the problem is the cord is actualy broken so ther is no current

Eh? I thought he meant he already had a new charger, not that it was still on the way. Still, there's the possibility that the power jack needs to be fixed. We had to fix a laptop with that problem a couple weeks ago.

Edit: jeez, didn't realize I took 24 minutes to finish editing my comment. Sorry jg, but you'll need to reread it. :P

Anyways, guess we'll wait and see if the new charger works. Otherwise, there's still the possibility that the jack is messed up.

I have a theory, which nobody has thought of yet.

If the light on the charger comes on when plugged it, but the light on the PC doesn't, and the battery is working and not dead... than that means that your battery is already charged fully, therefore the charging light will not come on! :D

Why has nobody but me thought of that? Really? An older Vista HP laptop in my house has a charge light on the front, as well as on the side when the charge cord is plugged in. If the battery needs charging, I plug in the cord, then plug the cord into the computer. The light around the port comes on, and tells me that power is going through. Then, the charge light on the front comes on, telling me that the battery is charging. If I have the laptop plugged in, but the battery doesn't need charging, the light will not come on.

My Solution: run the laptop on battery for a little bit. Then plug the charge cable in. If the light comes on, than I have solved your problem. If not, than something else is wrong.

@Everyone here: Before you go off saying that he needs to buy a new charger, or fix his current one, have a little common sense and think about solutions that don't involve buying or fixing new things. I'm sure you were a newbie a computers once, as was everyone, and you found out that sometimes, a little common sense thinking solved the whole thing, not buying something new. ;)

I have a theory, which is that you are partially blind since Rex said that his laptop won't charge at all. I fail to see why he would worry about being unable to do anything with his laptop if it were still being charged.

Anyways, I'm also with the "the wire between the charger and the computer broke" crowd. I've had enough recent experience with internal breaks in wires that I can offer the advice of wrapping a few layers of electrical tape around the last few inches of both ends of the wire because they tend to bend the most there. That will prevent them from bending quite as much which may help prevent this one from breaking too.

Tnxs for so many responses. (im using my standerd PC now). the laptop now ran out of power. Strange sine the light on the PC only shines red(red means to chrarge battery). The charger is plugged in properly and has a light shining on the battery box(the big box where you connect the 2 parts of the charger together). Yet it wont charge. Should i order a new power jack just in case?

Ehh no don't order a new jack, yet. Typically, if you have the tools to replace the jack, then you have the tools to fix the jack. Then again, you may need a drill, a tap, a bolt, and something to cut the bolt (among a few other things) in order to "fix" the jack. It really depends on how your jack works in your laptop and what the exact problem is.

Here's a decent video on what you'd have to do (he's replacing it, and if yours has the same problem, then you'd need to replace yours as well): http://www.youtube.c...h?v=KjOVOLOW1Hc
