Rrudev: Npl Scripter (Part 3)

Unfortunately, there are no pictures for this update. What you will find though are three important updates on it.

Standalone Changes

In the last update I stated that the NPL scripter would only come bundled with Map Creator and could be used separately if needed. However, this has been changed slightly. The NPL Scripter will be its own program and it will be released when it is complete. The NPL Scripter will still come with Map Creator, but it will be released as an application separately before Map Creator is complete. It will be fully functional with or without Map Creator present.

Future Proofing

Previously, ogun’s compiler would be embedded in the scripter. However this is no longer the case. The NPL compiler will remain as a separate file outside of the editor. The reason for this is, is to allow the compiler to be updated whenever an update is released by its author. This means when a compiler update comes out, all you’ll have to do is replace the older compiler with the new. You won’t need to wait for a new version of the NPL Scripter. So long as there haven’t been major changes to the compiler, the NPL Scripter will remain compatible and work with the new compiler.

But wait, there’s more! There will be a compiler options window to allow you to locate the compiler file and a section to allow you to change the command line it executes to compile a script. This basically means, in the case that another compiler were to be made you can set the scripter up to use a different compiler. With these options you could basically never update the scripter.

Wizard

The script wizard will not be a fully fledged wizard to make complicated scripts on the fly. It will be limited to creating only basic scripts (ones for crystal, ore goals). After the application's initial release I will start including example scripts in with it for the more complicated stuff.

Great to read about your progress. I teamed up with 2 other guys to get the Modding Suite running (in our spare time), so there may be something to show soon.
