The audience fell for it two years in a row.

It was the same old trick as last year.

And they fell for it again.

Spoiler

Seriously. Zoom kills Jay Garrick and dumps his body on the floor of his lair, only to take off his mask and reveal that he's...Jay Garrick? Granted, we now know it was Hunter Zolomon, but this is pretty crazy stuff that only happens on a TV show with alternate universes and time travel.

which audience

The Flash.

In the first season, the big villain is the Reverse Flash, but he was masquerading as Harrison Wells and Barry Allen's mentor.

In this season, the big villain is named Zoom, but he seemingly masqueraded as Jay Garrick and Barry Allen's mentor of sorts until he killed another Jay Garrick. It's confusing because he told another character on the show that his Earth-1 counterpart (There are at least two Earths in The Flash; the first is Earth-1, and Earth-2 is an alternate dimension of sorts) was named Hunter Zolomon. Hunter Zolomon was a Reverse Flash in the comics.

It's also confusing because the story involves lots of time travel and alternate universes, but still.
