RRU-Tube?

Phantom Terror

This was an idea that I had a little while ago that I thought would be a fun community thing to do. I was thinking we could do Minecraft and Terraria let's plays on the RRU servers, and maybe some classic LEGO game let's plays. We could also have our own podcast and other stuff.

But I want to hear from you guys. Would this be good/bad and what we would do?

I don't know about anyone else but I love the sound of that idea. I'd be willing to get involved with this... But let me make sure I've got this straight; you want to make a Rock Raiders United YouTube channel?

It's an idea. I would like to say that it could work, but I'm not completely convinced. Assuming that enough people would be ready to commit themselves once or twice a week, you would still need some human resources management, which is no easy task.

You have to ask yourself: Can I edit videos? Do I know someone who can? Who can organize dates and times? How can deadlines be enforced? How can the team remain motivated, even if views are low to begin with?

As soon as you have these things settled, you can consider the idea, I mean, you can wait and see what happens, see how many people can help / want to join in.

TL;DR: It's an idea worthy of recognition, but something that might take a while to be established / might not work at all.

I'd join in on video making, but I can't edit worth anything.  I'd have to pass stuff like that on to other places...

Game reviews might also be an interesting thing to add in.

Okay, so I have been thinking about this idea for a bit now. I would really like to see this project come through, so I offer you my services (recording, editing with professional software, maybe some management), should you ever decide to actually go ahead and do this. Just give me a holler here on RRU, in case you do this.

In fact, I could help edit the videos. But depending on how many videos might flood the account we probably should get a second video editor just in-case.

I'm preparing to get my youtube channel back up and introduce gaming on it. I might join in if this becomes a thing.

Oh yes, because Minecraft LPs are some of the most original, uncopied, and efficient use of my time! I love watching someone kill their nth creeper in 10 minutes and carry on with their normal server activities! That is so much fun!

Come on, this is RRU. More creative stuff than Minecraft LPs can be done. I know it. Those things are as numerous as bad fanfics, and are often done by the same age group, too. I watch few LPs, and Minecraft ones are a type I never touch because they are so numerous and repetitive they have lost all magic they might once have had (not to mention many people own Minecraft these days).

Every once in a blue moon I do a LP (if you've never seen my LPs, go to my channel and watch one. Just prepare yourself.). Who knows, maybe that can be a feature. That would probably be better than a Minecraft LP.

tl;dr Minecraft LPs are some of the most cliche, overly done video game uploads on the Web. I know RRU too well to know that something more original can be devised if such an "RRU Tube" project ever takes off.

If I do do any minecraft stuff, it'll be heavily modified Mindcraft with a high insanity content.

I plan to do odd, obscure games and free games... and maybe some plays through some less odd, obscure games while talking about why I like/dislike them.

I also don't see a point to the Minecraft LP, for the same reasons as you have mentioned, I do like the idea of maybe playing other multiplayer games (Garry's Mod, for example) and recording that and also the podcast idea. Single people could also have proper LP's of games, but I don't know if everyone would want to.

On the podcast idea, if we can get McJob(?:less) in, would be a weekly or monthly look at games and related news.  However, we'd need to actually be able to afford to play the stuff that comes out... for at least one of us.

Playing games is really only a quarter of the job, most the work is in the commentary. It has to be high quality and legitimately funny and unscripted... or else it will just be throw into the pile of "can't make it" of which many thousands of LP'ers currently sit.

Le717 is right though, MC LP's are way overdone now.

I've been told my commentary is good, especially within the last six months...  especially when I'm in active voice comms with someone.

And you know how my voice is. I'll let you be the judge of the quality it adds to my LPs (probably "a lot"). :P In conjunction with someone though, that could be an hilarious disaster.

Sometimes it's hilarious, other times, I can hit a really relaxing stride.  It's most hilarious when I'm not good at it and I'm panicking.

Ooooh, I is very intrigued by the idea of an RRU Youtube channel.

I'm not exactly a pro gamer (XP, remember? :P ) , but we could also possibly do some little animated shorts based around events in the shoutbox, and I'd be happy to lend my voice and write scripts and stuff like that for it if that ever happened. :)

Or animated stuff based on what happens in the podcast, if we do a podcast :P

If he's saying RRU-Tube i think he means a place to upload videos to thats like youtube but its on RRU more than he means to have a youtube channel. :| But thats just my opinion. Anyway, if i was ever to be involved at all in any way, i couldn't be able to lend my voice because my parents are... Uninterested in the idea. However if you can give me a voice deepener/lightener program then i might be able to do so. But there is a very slim chance i'm ever going to be involved in any way because i have no filming equipment and most of the time my jokes can be dry. Thats all i currently have to say.

Maybe you could be a straight faced Critic? That doesn't exactly require Recording Equipment or Jokes.

My parents are against showing my face on the internet. They're against everything that exposes me.

...wow. Maybe this should've been a topic...

Aight. Now it's time for me to get involved with the discussion...

Yes, if this is going to be a thing, we'd need a strong group of people working BTS who can and will commit themselves to editing. I think it'd be easiest to work with deadlines if they're longer than the more popular YT channels, like a podcast every month instead of every week/other week, or a LP every other week instead of every week. Since we all have lives outside of the internet, we'd need to be able to keep a project like this easily manageable so it doesn't interfere with our daily lives as much. LPs every other week and podcasts every month would also provide ample time for editing (i.e. we pre-record on a Friday night/Saturday a week or so before the announced release date and edit over the course of the week). Motivation is probably more difficult to work with than deadlines imo. I think that we'd remain motivated because we'd enjoy what we were doing. Which would essentially be a bunch of friends getting together to make a video and have a good time, and go into this with the understanding that in order to get to the big stuff, we need to work with a small audience first. I probably should have written all of this in the post, but I made the post intending it to be a community discussion, which looks like has succeeded.

I said MC LPs more as an example of what we could do. I understand that MC LPs are probably the most cliche video on the internet, and meant that more as an example (albeit a not very good one). Being RRU, we'd definitely work with other games.

Animated shorts would be a great thing to do! But we'd need someone skilled in some form of animation. Shoutbox animations seem even better, because all sorts of mayhem goes on in there, and sometimes it could be considered comedy gold.

An RRU Youtube channel was what I meant, but it would be good if we could make a subsection of RRU to put our videos on.

I'll let this sit here for a little while and see if anything else comes of it.

And almost a year later, nothing has changed.
