Can We Talk About How Terrible Java Is?

It's a useless pile of s***.

The f****ing thing won't work correctly on my sister's machine, and barely runs correctly on mine. The main problem on my sister's machine is that it keeps deleting the core .exe files. Java.exe, javaw.exe and a few others are constantly deleted anytime you try to run a Java app after installation. Putting copies of these files in the folder doesn't help, since it deletes them too. Completely cleaning my computer of everything Java related; every folder, registry entry, plugin, and looking for any trace of Oracle's bulls*** doesn't help, since on reinstall it does the EXACT. SAME. THING.

It even does it for older installations. This is glorious. It's a monument to stupidity. However, the really piece of cake is this.

From Java's support section. $25.

I'm done. I'm not formatting the computer just to get Minecraft working for my sister. Thanks, Oracle.

I thought this blog was going to be some rant about how Java is structured, or something related to TheDoctor's arguments. Then I read the blog and saw what it was really about.

Also, what the heck is with their installer? If I recall, it does the shady try-to-get-you-to-install-extra-software that sketchy free programs always do. Why does Oracle need to do that?!

As someone who was taught how to program in Java, I can fully attest to everything said in this post.

Because Java is free and they have to make money. The extra software pays to be part of the installer because no one will download it normally.

Java is perfectly fine if your computer isn't messed up and you know what you're doing.

I love how the CEO of Oracle is literally the highest-earning CEO on Earth...

And they do bulls*** like this.

Y'all creating a spectre out of Java when it's not.  Yes, like all other things, there are negatives and Oracle's management of it hasn't been the best.  But it's a tool like any other and can create many great things, Minecraft first among them and hopefully ORR-D too :P

Unless you're using Linux, I see no point in reformatting just for Java to work, and if you are using Linux *cough*OpenJDK*cough*.

McJobless, suddenly I am in the same boat here. While the core Java exes are not deleted, it crashes the moment it loads. And you know why I am trying to fix Java?

To play Minecraft.

Sometimes, I wish Minecraft was made in C++.
