Blade Symphony - Original Composition

By Masterchief,

It's been months since I last posted here, but it's also been months since I last uploaded a new piece of music. So here we go!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M66XFoDTVg

Blade Symphony by JDBArtist

created in 1 hour without my keyboard as it is currently in repair (so please accept my apology for the constant high-level velocity, I felt it was right for the tone and vibe of the track)

I admit it sounds almost like an anime soundtrack. I had this tune in my head for a day and I am fairly happy with the final result.

Enjoy!

Mass Effect - Tribute

By Masterchief,

Good evening my friends,

Today I would like to share my Tribute for Bioware's Mass Effect series with you!

Please have a listen and tell me what you think of it. The idea for this tune came to my mind whilst spending hours cracking planets in Mass Effect 2.

All the best,

Jake

Now I know that most of you don't need any music for their projects and I only wanted to share this with you

New year, new music!

By Masterchief,

Hey again!

Today I would like to share 2 new compositions with you, one being an original, the other one being a tribute.

Lost Soul (Original), I tried to relax and played a simple melody on the piano, later on I added the drums, what do you think? Feels relaxing?

Gray Shades - Elfen Lied (Tribute)

Well as I said in the description I tried to capture the innocence... Sounds weird considering the amount of violence in the original series but I feared one might forget about the one thing that links everything. Might guess what it is?

Cheers everyone! Enjoy the new year!

Determined Soul - Dubstep

By Masterchief,

Hi again,

today I would like to share my latest composition with you which kind of went into an unforseen direction: Electronic/Dubstep.

Well it was my first try doing dubestep but here it is!

Cheers!

JDB

PS: Planet Miners Alpha 2 is on it's way and I will have a little surprise for you, obviously by christmas!

Planet Miners Alpha 1 Conclusion

By Masterchief,

Planet Miners Alpha 1 Fix 3 has been released today!

I won't post the full changelog here but I would like to explain the purpose of Alpha 1 as it seems I caused

some confusion by releasing the alpha without a proper introduction to the topic.

Planet Miners Alpha 1 - Purpose

The first alpha should basically prove that my code (my codebase = 8000 lines of code)

is running on different systems and hardware configurations.

Though it caused a lot of confusion, for which I would like to apologize, the alpha was kind of

a success as it proved that the code indeed is running though the game experience

wasn't epic at all cause there was no real gameplay

implemented.

Obviously I am gonna change that with Alpha 2.

I proved that the code is running, now I can go on to focus on

gameplay, interactiond and the storyline itself.

This will take more time than it took to develop a running codebase so please be patient

and eventually watch the

progress bar for alpha 2 here, as I can't give a

definite release date for alpha 2. This time

I am following the indie rule:

It's done when it's done!

Well, I guess that's it for now. If you have any questions or anything else to say, do not hesitate to head over to the forum!

Cheers!

Planet Miners - Alpha Launch Today!

By Masterchief,

Planet Miners Alpha Release

---------------------

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who made this possible! In under an hour you will be able to play the first alpha of Planet Miners - Mining to the core!

Well the first alpha gives you a sneak peak into the storyline of chapter 6. And be warned/be assured, as two of my internals validated the game is not as easy as it may look like on first sight, sure once completed you will be able to finish it within 4 minutes, but the key is that you won't get help, no AI that tells you where to go, no chief engieer that tells you what needs to be done, all you can rely on are the status reports of the board computer and the key is to listen very closely and carefully to what it says.

If you face any problems with the game or in case you want to give feedback (suggestions, ideas), do not hesitate to visit the new Planet MIners forum at jdbartist.net/forum

Oh and for everyone who intends to join our journey to the final release (still 1 - 2 years to go), there will be a second competition to win a free key in December! So stay tuned!

Cheers,

JDB

Beta testers & some answers

By Masterchief,

First: I am sorry to be a little late but your comments keept me busy!

Besides announcing who has been choosen to take part in the beta, I will try my best to answer some questions along the way! ;)

The following community members qualified for the beta:

Addictgamer : Some sort of mining game? Some sort of underground game? - YES.

Cyrem: - No comment.

Storm: - You too, my friend will get access!

Cirevam: Something amazing, probably a game. I want to say it's some sort of preview tool but I really don't know. - THX in advance, it's a game!

TheDoctor: Some sort of video/rendered animation having something to do with the picture. - Indeed, that's included.

pepper314: Something to do Power Miners? Or maybe P stands for something else? It's about mining, though. - It's not affiliated with Power Miners, but mining is included!

Segatendo: Well, I was thinking something RRs related. But that would probably be too obvious. - Indeed. You will see for yourself!

RR Rocks: Also, to secure my place in the beta: It's a game! :D- :D

Extreme110: It's obviously some kind of game related thing. - You're right! But not RR related.

rockraider pascal: some sort of lrr remake that was too realistic to be lego so you just made it into a mining game with dark caves nstuff - No remake but dark, indeed!

Alexpanter: Something related to the pictures you posted. - Smart!

Lair of Rockwhales: - For not knowing at all what's going on! :D

Thank you all for participating! All of you have been choosen to take part in the private beta of Planet Miners!

Depending on development progress the first private beta might start in mid July, however you will gain access to additional ressources and downloads from the following website:

www.jdbartist.net - look for a page called developement, which is going online by the end of next week.

'Important'

Everyone of you will get a PM from me, containing your very own beta key that will grant you access to the developement site as well as the beta builds of the game. These keys can be compared to steam keys, well what I mean is they can only be activated once per one person, ideally by yourself and it will be linked to your email adress (that way I can send you the download links once the newest build goes online)! These PMs will include all the instructions you will need to know to help with Planet Miner's development.

Take care!

-JDB

PS: If you have any questions, feel free to use the comments to post them!

Rock Raiders Modding Suite 2.0 Release!!!

In October 2011 I finally released the source of the Rock Raiders Modding Suite 1.0 to the public.

Back then I was about to change my life (move to another country, get a new job etc.) and so

I had to make a difficult decision.

I had to stop development of the Modding Suite.

Now almost 6 months later I am announcing the immediate release of

Rock Raiders Modding Suite 2.0

Rising Sun - My Latest Composition

By Masterchief,

Welcome to the Rising Sun!

Hi again,

@ Addictgamer: You finally finished it!

So now for everyone:

Weeks ago I promised Addictgamer to give it a try and compose something epic, something that features drums, strings and emotion. It wasn't easy but after a while (after 2 weeks making test etc.) I finally got something but it still needed a name, you know a meaningful name!

Well as evil as I am, I just asked Addictgamer to give the track a name (without having heard it yet, i know THAT's evil!) and so he did.

Without further ado, here's my latest track called (what a surprise^^): Rising Sun

If you like the track and if you want to support me please consider to subscribe to my channel (seeing these 'views' statistics rising really keeps me going;))!

Cheers,

JDB Artist

PS: Does anyone know whether it's possible to embend YT vids in my blog posts? (It's possible on the forum, but I failed twice here on my blog ;))

Channel Migration Complete

By Masterchief,

Hi again,

just wanted to inform you that I almost completed my channel migration.

The new channel is available at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheJDBArtist/featured

As you can see I changed the video design, there won't be any sound animations anymore.

Instead the videos will feature adequate backgrounds underlining the themes of my music.

At the moment the following tracks have been redesigned and uploaded to the channel:

  • Before War
  • In Shadows
  • Gleam in the Night
  • Horizon

If you observed my old channel in the past you might wonder where the two tracks called "Lonesome" have gone...

Well I decided to remix them after I finished addictgamer's final battle between good and evil, so those ones will reappear as well!

@ addictgamer: It will be up to you to find a good name for the track but the challenge is that you won't be able to hear the track before the release! I know this is evil! ;)

So I am happy to tell you that I managed to clear things out with my old channel.

It is hard to start again from the ground up but it is possible and so I will try.

As always, if you like my music and if you would like to support me please consider to subscribe. - THX a lot! ;)

Cheers!

New Channel - New Composition

By Masterchief,

Hi again!

I may have mentioned it earlier but last week I made up my final decision. I opened my new kind of 'official' You Tube Channel.

This means my new compositions as well as some of my older compositions will be hosted on my new channel side by side with my animation stuff (I never mentioned that on the forum but if you took a glance on my profile you might have read that I am actually a 3D game designer).

The new name of my channel should sound a little bit more serious, however those ones of you who know me also know that I can be everything except being serious! ;)

So without further ado: Here's the link to my new YouTube channel!

I already uploaded my newest composition to the new channel. It's called: We won't surrender, you may find it here.

As always I am open for critics and comments and I would be delighted if you would consider to subscribe to my new channel!

We won't surrender actually started out as the epic composition I promised to addictgamer but during the process of refining, adding instruments, removing existing parts I discovered that this composition in itself features some deep emotions and a little bit despair so I thought it would be best to share this track with you before I finish the epic fight between good and evil!

[warn='Concerning my old channel!']My old channel will be closed within the next 4 months.[/warn]

I would feel honored if my existing subscribers would chose to move with me over to my new channel.

Next thing: THANK YOU SO MUCH RRU!!! ONCE AGAIN I HAVE TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS YOUR FRIENDSHIP - WE HIT THE 20'000 VIEWS MILESTONE!!!

That makes it up for this month (It has been very stressful but I can say that the next 2 months will be worse! ;))

Cheers,

Masterchief

PS: @Cirevam: A storm is rising, once again and it will be definitely worse than the storm before, you might recall what this means, it will be up to you to decide whether to reveal this news or to wait until I accomplish the unaccomplished!

Hi again!

This time I am proud to present you a cover version of Hans Zimmer's song of the exiles featured in the movie "King Arthur".

I did this cover in co-production with a beautiful singer who's You Tube Nickname is ThePrincessOfTheDark.

Without further ado, here's the Link to the Cover!

Enjoy and do not hesitate to write me your comments and critics!

And if you would like to support me feel free to subscribe to my channel!

Wish you the best,

JDB alias Masterchief

PS: @Addictgamer and all my other friends: I am working on the epic battle between good and evil but it takes time so stay tuned and in the meanwhile enjoy this piece of music! ;)

Hi again,

Today I am proud to tell you that I finally finished my latest composition. Actually this one was already completed 2 weeks ago but during the process of postproduction, cleaning things up, listening to it, adjusting the equalizers, searching for the right compressor... Well I discovered during the process of Postproduction that this track was far from being finished. So it took me 2 weeks to clean this track up and to finalize it. It`s the first track that uses a new compressor VST I recently bought. What does that mean? Well if you listen to it you might realize that this one has slightly more bass volumes than my previous tracks.

This was an issue that occured when I rendered the final tracks out of my Workstation resulting in a slightly loss of bass volume but now and for my upcoming releases this is fixed!

@Addictgamer: This is not the epic battle between good and evil I promised you with the release of my last track "Before War". I am working on the conlusion/sequel to "Before War" so stay tuned!

Here's the link to Youtube!

Please comment on this track and give me your critics/opinions and suggestions!

And if you would like to support me, I would be delighted if you would consider to subscribe to my Youtube Channel. Thank you very much!

Cheers!

Before War - 2Nd Epic Track

By Masterchief,

Hi again!

It's time again for me to present you my latest work!

The track is called "Before War" and it took me 2 days to complete it. Therefore I would like to mention that there might be some mistakes in the track that should have been fixed before the music went online but as this track was part of a competition (write a classical/epic track in 2 days), I tried as fast as I could to produce something that reflects my ideas.

The basic idea for this track was a scene of King Arthur. The battle hasn't started yet but you can feel it in the air that something is totally wrong, that someone might not be able to see the next day.

On the other side I tried to implement the theme of total release.

Please feel free to comment your suggestions and your critics as it helps me to improve my music!

Here's the link to YouTube

And I would be honored if you would consider to subscribe to my channel if you like what you hear!

And I would really like to take this opportunity to thank the whole community as I just realized that my Blog here on RRU has been viewed over 10'000 times! Thanks a lot! You are awsome!

Cheers!

Masterchief

Jdb - In Shadows - First Epic Track

By Masterchief,

Hi again,

while the forum was offline, and I am really happy that it is online again, I completed my very first epic track!

@addictgamer: Finally I created something you might call epic... at least I hope it sounds that way!

So everybody I really hope you like the track and if you would like to support me please consider to subscribe to my channel on youtube.

JDB - In Shadows HD

That's it for today!

Cheers!

2Nd Gift For The Community

By Masterchief,

Hi there once again,

seems like I already posted yesterday... Wait... I DID post yesterday!

If this goes on I might end up posting these things on a daily basis, not that anyone would read my entries ;)

So it´s not christmas but it´s time for my second gift to the community of rru!

Once again I present you a new track featuring the dark ambient atmosphere deep underground.

The Second Gift

Name: RR - Deep Underground

Please consider this to be the second experiment using various synthesizers because that`s what it is... My second track featuring multiple synthesizers! :P

You are free to redistribute this track, use it for your own projects in any way you like BUT you are not allowed to sell it or gain any money using this track.

I might end up doing an entire album for the Community just in case you like the music and the ideas keep coming!

So far we have:

RR - Crystal Clear

RR - Deep Underground

I would be delighted to hear/read your feedback, comments, hints and suggestions!

Cheers,

Masterchief

PS: AddictGamer this track is the special gift to ORR! :docs: Good luck!

Hi there once again!

It has been a busy time for me and there's still a lot to do for me before I get ready for christmas (you know you keep doing your normal stuff and then.. one morning you wake up and it's Christmas time!!! ... And I always forget to do a lot of stuff I wanted to finish BEFORE Christmas), so that's the reason why I want to share something with you.

Thanks to my Keyboard and my VST Collection I can't stop making music, eh it's not my job to create and write music but I really enjoy doing it.

So I wanted to inform you that I uploaded my newest orchestral video to youtube. It's called Beyond the Horizon

and you might take a look for it here. (Well I would be pleased!)

The next thing is: I have a gift for you! Yes for you! If you can read this, you have to be a member of the Rock Raiders Community and if you read my blog you might as well be interested in modding Lego Rock Raiders, well I love to play the game and I really enjoy the music but... Ok, you know what comes next (I bet that addictgamer knew it before I wrote this article! ).

Oh and Lair... I am sorry but I don't think it's epic ;) Well I promise you that I will create something very special for you!

So back to the gift:

My newest track called: RR - Crystal Clear

You can download it from the attachment.

I give this track to you as a gift. You might use it in free or commercial projects, alter it, etc. but you are not allowed to sell it.

This track is very special as it consists only of synthesizers as I tried to catch the atmosphere and feeling of the original game music and yes you might aswell create a mod using this track but please consider this to be an experiment. I am not used to synthesizers and I didn't try to match any of the original themes.

Everybody who listens to it will agree that it is a littlebit darker than the originals.

So enjoy your gift!

Cheers,

Masterchief

@Lair and addictgamer: I am working on the epic track... for 6 weeks now and I am pretty close to finish it so please stay tuned! :)

Modding Suite Release

By Masterchief,

Hello everybody!

@

Cyrem: Thank you very much!

SciGuy: Thanks a lot!

Anonymouse: I really appreciated your suggestions!

addictgamer: You were the best and only beta tester!

Lair of Rockwhales: Thank you very much for your support!

Community: You are the best in the world, everybody of you!

So here is it. Reality hits us all, one day: I lost my job... Not bad, didn´t like it that well but the problem is I also lost my license for Revolution alias LiveCode so what does it mean.

I have the source of the Modding Suite but I can´t use it anymore. Some of you might know Microsofts Visual Studio, you open your project and you are ready to go. LiveCode asks for your license on every startup and since the 1st of October I am not able to develope the Modding Suite any further using Revolution.

Is this the end?

NO! It just means that I have to start again, from the beginning using another language. The good side is: I found a new job!^^ They granted me a license for another programming language.

The bad thing is: I have to learn this new language!

So what does all this mean?

In fact this is the end of the Modding Suite as it has been seen. It´s also the beginning of something new, totally new. I try very hard to convert working Revolution Code into the new language but as you know you have to study a lot to become a master. So it takes time but I am already making some progress.

The new Modding Suite (and yes it´s coming!) will feature less features (at least for the beginning) and a cleaner User Interface.

And now?

I am cleaning up my PC. Instead of deleting all those builds, test and exercises I decided to upload them for YOU!

"One day someone will find my treasure, it will be the choosen one to complete the task I failed so great" - Not mine but it kinda fits the situation!

The package includes a lot of files. Some new and many old ones. It also includes the complete sourcecode

@Anonymouse: Finally its open source! Like you always wanted -.-

If you study the folders you will find the beta builds. All these builds include partially working features altough I can´t tell you which one was the one closest to completion!

Please take a look into the "old" and "outdated" User Guide manual, it took me a lot of time to write that one (well that`s all I remember^^)

So if anyone of you got a license for LiveCode alias Revolution, do not hesitate to pick up the project and go on! I am done with this at least while using LiveCode.

@Cyrem: If you setup the FTP Account with the same login and pass you remember from our conversation then the FTP Library feature might also work as intended again.

Thank you very much for your great support!

Mirrors: (Once again I was not allowed to upload the files here using .rar and .zip formats!^^)

Multiupload: http://www.multiupload.com/YR1MG17OA2

And in the end: I wish you all the best!

PS: I won´t stop. I will never give up. But please give it a try and listen to some of my music! $_$
