My (First) Tablet

Phantom Terror

Earlier this year, my dad agreed to pay half the amount of a tablet of my choice if I pay for the other half. Fast forward a few months and I'm finally getting close to paying my half for a tablet. I decided to choose the NVIDIA Shield. I could buy it now if that's all that I was getting. But since it's a gaming tablet, why not get the controller and cover to go with it? The grand total is $400 ($300 for the tablet, $60 for the controller, and $40 for the cover). My dad's paying for half of the tablet and accessories, as well as the 2 year warranty and the stylus if I ever feel like doodling. I'm really excited about getting this and look forward to using it. The Shield was my first choice for a tablet because it's designed specifically for gaming, and even though I don't PC game that much, it still has a more powerful processor than most tablets, so it'd pretty much replace my laptop for most things (it has a more powerful processor than my laptop too). The screen size is nice, my ideal tablet screen size, and a built-in storage capacity of 16 GB is always nice to have, I'll probably end up giving it a 16 GB micro SD card for extra space. The stand also makes it easier to use for games, watching videos, and listening to music, and the fact that it has a controller to use with it is pretty cool. :)

I've got the Shield Tablet as well, and it's a REALLY good tablet for gaming. Great choice for emulaing and the few Android games that are actually worth playing.

I would just recommend that you lay off of Lollipop as there are a few bugs in that update. Wait for the next update for that.

As for buying a stylus, the Shield Tablet already comes with one, so you won't need another one. :P

If you end up getting hairline cracks round the edges of the tablet, let NVIDIA know. They'll RMA it and ship you a new one at no charge. Also, if your Tablet ends up making static, Geiger Counter-like noises when everything else is silent, let me know. I've been having a similar problem.

So instead of getting the 16 GB tablet, I'm getting the 32 GB tablet with a SIM card slot. It's an extra $50, and I don't get the controller and case with it. But I think that this choice will benefit me in the long run.

I also get Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode 1, and Portal with it (all optimized for the tablet).

My tablet ended up getting replaced due to a battery-related recall. The replacement made some Geiger Counter-like noises for a while, but now it's dead. It refuses to charge from any port or cord that I use. I'm working with customer service right now to get it replaced, but almost a year after purchase and it's the best tablet I've used so far.
