Right! I have a project with the first step due in 21 hours regarding Rock Raiders United. The project is to redesign a website, with deliverables being 4-6 images and a design document, so there won't actually be any new website.

I must interview and survey some users.

You are all users. You will respond to my questions at your discretion. You will respond to them as a single reply to this blog post. You will write your own responses, and will not simply cite each other in agreement. If it is past the due date when you respond to this blog, that is fine, I can use the additional feedback for later steps in this endeavor.

QUESTION 1: What is Rock Raiders United?

QUESTION 2: What do you, not anyone else, do at Rock Raiders United. What do you use this website for?

QUESTION 3: What is it about Rock Raiders United that has your attention, why not forget RRU and use another community instead?

QUESTION 4: What issues or gripes do you have with Rock Raiders United?

QUESTION 5: Despite any issues you may or may not have with the site, is there anything you find lacking from the website? Is there anything that you would change?

I may in one way or another ask follow-up questions.

Thank you for contributing to this project.

  • 1) It's a forum where we can chat and be sociable, but also be productive.
  • 2) Primarily chatting and ranting on the shoutbox, but also for looking at RR mods and getting support with them.
  • 3) Nothing else I've found has a shoutbox. :P The other reason is that RR has a special place in my heart, and so any discussion about RR means I'm interested. This just doesn't exist on anywhere else: good luck finding someone sane in the LMBs.
  • 4) The shoutbox is far too easily broken. :P No, I'm serious, that's the only issue I have with it and I just wrote it down because 'I don't have any' is far too generic.
  • 5) The wiki is DEAD. Even after le717 did a whole load of work on it, it's still dead. The only page I care for is NerpsReference. Mind you, the wiki ISN'T obsolete. It's still usable... just useless at the moment.

Okay mate. Thanks for being nice and considerate in your request, and I'm absolutely not being sarcastic at all. :)

QUESTION 1: What is Rock Raiders United?
It's a community hub and forum for those interested in LEGO, specifically the classic (1990s - Early 2000s) LEGO video games.
QUESTION 2: What do you, not anyone else, do at Rock Raiders United. What do you use this website for?

Nowadays use it as my personal blog, also use it as a resource for video game information and sometimes for entertainment.
QUESTION 3: What is it about Rock Raiders United that has your attention, why not forget RRU and use another community instead?

I've been here for what, 4 years? Not easy to forget a place like this after 4 years. The community also happens to be great, and there's plenty always going on to be involved in.
QUESTION 4: What issues or gripes do you have with Rock Raiders United?

New members >:(

Seriously though, not that much. Mostly regarding content, since there's not a lot that I'm properly informed in that I can discuss at great length that the community also has a vested interest in. Also, the server drops quite a bit...
QUESTION 5: Despite any issues you may or may not have with the site, is there anything you find lacking from the website? Is there anything that you would change?

There's not enough discussion about the LDD FoV and how children in Africa are being affected by it.

I think the website as a whole needs a bit of a reform to be a little more inclusive. The people here know far more games than just the classic LEGO ones, but we also LEGO. Also, a reward system or some kind of incentive system that would make users more interested in making and playing mods, since there's not much interest from people at the moment to try anything, even though work is being done.

* sits back with notepad *

I can say of both 5's above, there is stuff in the works but I can't really say anything at this point.

Also, the server drops quite a bit...

Are you able to eleborate with details?

1) Rock Raiders United is a forum devoted primarily to the modding of classic LEGO video games but also is involved in other video games, including theory and development, and LEGO in general.

2) I use RRU in order to socialize with the amazing members and staff, as well as to be involved in the game modding. RRU is also the premier source for troubleshooting the classic LEGO games, and I'm sure I would have found it sooner or later.

3) It would have to be the people. As McJobless so eloquently wrote, this place is like a huge, international family, complete with the odd ones and people so far distanced from you you barely know them. In addition, I've been here for 3 years, and rather active from the start. If I would have left, I would not be typing this. I have learned and experienced so many things by being a part of this family, and it is not always possible to leave and replace family.

4) I will state right now I do not really have any issues or gripes about RRU. The staff are amazing, the members are nice, funny, silly, informative, amazing, the site is well designed, I really cannot find anything wrong. If an issue ever arises, I know it can be reported and the appropriate action will be taken.5

5) As for lacking, I would assume content, correct? The only real lack of content would be larger participation on the wiki, as that has the potential to be a great resource, and some sort of community project or event. I'll be following up on my LR2 voices entry for the second time hopefully this week, and I have already shown my support for a community mod project (the has been enough time since Candy Raiders for new members to join and make it a success, including myself as I was not around during Candy Raiders), and I thoroughly enjoyed the Racers competition. I would love for there to be more things like that. For competitions, a physical prize is not required at all times (though it is nice), and you never know if a member might be willing to sponsor a prize (almost like the donator group). While it is impossible and unwise to have something all the time, I would like for there to be more community projects.

Hopefully this will help you out, Alcom, and I did not submit it late. :)

01): Rock Raiders United (from my perspective) is a web fourm designed for Fans of Lego to meet and talk about Lego games, eventually going as far as to turn the fourm into a site made for anything including, but not limited to, Lego games.

02): At first I joined because I thought back then "Wow, this site is pretty darn cool...   ...Hell! I'll sign up!". Compared to what I thought then I wasn't expecting this much silliness and also I wasn't exppecting soo much hype trains regarding 2015 (most, if not all, people on this fourm will know what I am talking about).

03): Well...   ....this does feel embarrassing to admit...   ...But at first I was planning to join the SI3D fourms (Sodor Island 3D, yes I was that much into TTTE back then) but it had an age minimum of 13 which I was below at the time. If it wern't for the age-limit at the time then I wouldn't be sitting here, typing up why I didn't join another fourm. Of course, I did join the LMB but I can't access that for some unknown reason.

04): Nothing. I admit I'm afraid of change, so I see nothing about this fourm that I'd like to change.

05): ''

Thanks for reading. Even if it is a bit too late.

1 - A place where people discuss older LEGO games and hax them. Gradually becoming more generally LEGO-y.

2 - I discuss LEGO games, hax LEGO games, prevent things from blowing up, and go all hazmat mode on whatever does blow up.

3 - There is no alternative, nor a need for one. RRU as a thing meshes perfectly with several of my interests, combined.

4 - Can't really think of anything regarding the site itself. The community has its quirks, but every community does, RRU isn't especially quirky.

5 - I don't ever think of the wiki except for when other people mention it, which is pretty rare. It's not very focal to the site, it just sort of exists in some dark corner.

QUESTION 1: Rock Raiders United is a small (but growing) community which communicates primarily through its forum, but also through other areas such as the blogs and private messaging. It's main focus is on the modification of old LEGO games, but it also includes general topics involving LEGO and other topics entirely.

QUESTION 2: I mostly create, share and play mods with other users of the forum, and engage in the discussion of various aspects of LEGO. I also socialise with other members.

QUESTION 3: The community is amazing - warm, friendly and mature. The modification of old LEGO games is unparalleled anywere else. Also, the general subject matter that RRU covers hits my nostalgia spot on.

QUESTION 4: At times, members can join who aren't mature, or who can disrupt the community. At even rarer times, this can cause a nasty stir in the members. This is my only gripe, I have no issues with the function of the forum.

QUESTION 5: I would like to see the Uploaded Files section better organised; if I had the opportunity I would even organise it similarly to the Gallery, where members get their own sections. Other than that... Not that I can think of.

  • A community dedicated to modding of the 'Classic' LEGO Games.
  • I use this site to play, create, and release mods of Classic LEGO Games. I also use it as a place to socialize about other miscellaneous things when not doing things regarding that.
  • I'm not really sure to be honest. When I first registered here, I know I did not stick around. As I got to know more people grew more fond of this place I guess. Also, RRU isn't the only community I'm regularly active in, so there really isn't an exact reason I have to stick around, besides socializing and talking with the people I know in between those modding times.
  • My main concern is that we don't have enough bathrooms around here. The lineups are always soooooooooooo long! Also, this site lacks motivation to update the wiki. Maybe a competition could get the ball rolling on that? ;P Anyway, so I know there is only so much of us, and this does include myself, but just the general lack of motivation to make mods for Classic LEGO Games, as well as playing mods by others, seem to be missing. I mean sure you can get at least 10 comments if you make decent mod, but only 1/4-1/2 of them will actually try it out and give proper feedback. People just seem to be more interested in just coming by, lounging around, and talking about random crap, and giving you a pat on the back when you make something that looks remotely interesting.
  • Not a necessity, but adding an alternate color scheme is something I'd say would be nice RRBlue ftw!

1. A site where people actively do nothing, all day, every day.

2. I honestly have no idea. I mainly come for Pereki's stuff and some of Jamesster's stuff.

3. Old (and very obscure) LEGO stuff that users on other forums rarely bring up (doesn't happen anymore on BZPower, as far as I'm aware).

4.  The site itself works just fine. Any issues with people are a personal matter, not that I've had any for a long time.

5. Nothing is lacking, and I can't see anything that it makes sense to add.

Edit: for number four, I often click on people's avatars for the topic on the list on the front page. It would be nice if this brought me to the topic page.

1) RRU is a community of LEGO fans specialized in research and modding of old LEGO Games.

2) I chat with the members, follow the modding research in LR2, and share my creations with the members. And a lot of other stuff which I don't think deserves to be explained in detail. :P

3) I like this website because the members are all more or less mature and like socializing, and that's the people I like to talk with. Also, I am attached to this place. I have loved it since the day I joined, because there are no other LEGO related sites that have a community like this.

4) There are some bugs here and there, and, about the social aspect of this website, it's just like Xiron said. Not more, nor less. Including the bathrooms

5) Hmm, more backgrounds and colours? The site is a bit plain. That's not a real issue, and anyway I have no problems with the current site design whatsoever.
